Here is our route from SPOT. Jen and I were desperate to get our new 105th Anniversary Glide so as we could enjoy a ride on our new bike to the H.O.G.European Rally. Joining Hadrian V-Twin Tours & Rentals for some of the time was the plan but it was the Heart'n'Soul weekend too! I managed to get a fullday at the Heart'n'Soul, a long standing tradition for me, and an early start on Sunday 21st September 2008. Surprisingly it was Jen up at 03:30 using my well practised statement of 'we're burning daylight'. The new Glide performed brilliantly and we were soon in Dover and onto our first billet, Two Wheels Moorings, a first day in the saddle of a mere 600 miles. We met a couple of riders heading for Lake Garda just North of Reims and although ready to stop we still had about an hours ride. Sun setting behind us the run from the Peage just North of Reims to Dun sur Meuse was excellent and a very welcoming end at Two Wheels Moorings.
Had a fantastic second day to our meeting with the rest of the party from Hadrian V-Twin Tours at Landhaus. On route we met up with a HOG Chapter and the Chelsea and Fulham guy we'd met the day before. His Road King has 150,000 miles on it! On day three we decided to ride alone again so that we could get the 1,000 mile service on Bronzed Goddes but disaster my Zumo550 would not start up. It took me about an hour to find our location, not helped by the fact that there are two towns called Hornberg quite close together, luckily I had maps as being dependant on GPS can cause problems. Got the service done in Switzerland and onto Hotel Enzian in Landeck Austria where we met the Hadrian V-Twin party once more.
Day 3 started out so well; but I T-Boned a Sheep on the Timmelsjoch Pass.
Our trip insurance rolled into motion and we soon had a rental car to continue our journey but it was very late before we arrived at San Francesco Camping the epi-centre of the H.O.G. party and the bossom of our friends. Although the reason for the trip was the H.O.G. European Rally for me that is the cement that binds us to each other and it is the ride to the event and back where the joy lies. We had a very quiet time as I got my head around our predicament and made all the appropriate phone calls to get ouselves sorted out. We ended up leaving a day early so as we could stay on schedule with our returned booked accomodation.
Sunday at Hotel Enzian meant we could tour the area and fortunately we came across a local horse festival in Seedfeld.
Back to Laudhaus and guess what found my lost glasses, thought they'd gone west in the RTI (Road Traffic Incident) but no I'd left them in the hotel on the way down, things were starting to look up. One more Hadrian V-Twin hotel and we decided to come home sooner than planned; start to organise our back to normality. Later.
